The Functional Skin

I have such a soft spot for a brilliant female-founded Australian business, especially when there’s a really good story behind it. The Functional Skin was founded in Brisbane by nurse Madilyn Sonter, aka The Functional Nurse, after years of dealing with her own eczema-prone, sensitive skin and persistent acne.

What I love about Madilyn’s approach is that she looks beyond simply “fixing” skin from the outside. Her nursing career and postgraduate study led her to explore the connection between skin, gut health, nervous system regulation and the strength of our skin barrier. The result is a science-led, health-conscious range designed to soothe, strengthen and support the skin rather than strip or overwhelm it.
